ConneXu reaffirms commitment to keep building a more inclusive Aotearoa

December 3rd marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Local disability support provider ConneXu is acknowledging the significance of the day, reaffirming their commitment to keep building a more inclusive Aotearoa.

The United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities is on 3 December. For 2025, the theme is: Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress. Local disability support provider ConneXu is acknowledging the significance of the day, and the work still to be done.

ConneXu CEO Fern Ryan says “International Day of Persons with Disabilities is an important reminder of what sits at the heart of our mahi — partnership, inclusion, and the belief that every person should have the opportunity to live a great life, on their own terms.”

“At ConneXu, we walk alongside disabled people and their whānau every day, supporting them to shape the lives they want and to be active participants in their communities.”

ConneXu supports over 200 disabled people across the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Lakes Districts.

This includes Karleigh in Tauranga, who is smashing her goals in so many areas of her life, from making her mark in community theatre, completing her level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing to completing the 11km course of the Auckland Marathon in October 2024, to participating in a range of team sports and activities. This also includes Corban in the Waikato, who was named runner up role model of the year for Riding for the Disabled in 2025. Corban's commitment to volunteering not only exemplifies the therapeutic benefits of RDA’s programmes, but also highlights the inclusive environment that empowers individuals like him to contribute meaningfully to the community. Fern Ryan says ConneXu’s very important work takes a team effort, with disabled people front and centre.

“I want to acknowledge the people we partner with, whose leadership, perspectives and courage influence not only their own journeys but the direction of our organisation. I also want to thank their whānau and our dedicated team, who bring manaakitanga, kotahitanga, and unwavering commitment to the Enabling Good Lives principles into their work every day.”

“Today is a celebration — but it is also a commitment to keep building a more inclusive Aotearoa where every person is valued, connected, and supported to thrive. ConneXu is proud to be part of that future.”
