Having loved living in Te Awamutu for well over a decade, Sylvia feels compelled to give back to the community. She is excited about being a part of ConneXu’s work supporting people with disabilities.

Sylvia has been involved with the hearing-impaired community for several years, and through this work, brings extensive governorship experience to the board. She is currently Chairperson Northern, as well as Vice-President and Treasurer for Hearing Association New Zealand Incorporated. Her other roles include Council member for National Foundation of the Deaf, as well as Assistant Secretary for the Te Awamutu branch of the Hearing Association.

Sylvia holds a Bachelor of Management Studies degree from the University of Waikato, as well as being a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) professional body. Sylvia now runs her own accounting practice, having worked as a chartered accountant for other firms for many years before that.

Sylvia and her husband Deon have 3 adult children who live in Hamilton and the Gold Coast, Australia. In her spare time, she enjoys the gym, hiking and travel.
