Life in lockdown - Take Two.

‘Here we go again’. We dusted off the home gym equipment and got our cooking ingredients ready for another lockdown - Delta style.

On Tuesday 17th of August 2021 New Zealand went back into Alert level 4. The ConneXu Whanau welcomed back our bubble living filled with TEAMS video calls, baking competitions, exercise competitions, spring cleaning competitions and walks.... walks and more …. walks.

For second year in a row our remarkable Community Facilitators split into red and blue teams and began their one week on, one week off shifts working alongside the people we support in their homes, while our leaders and office staff supported in any way they could, whether it be delivering PPE, medication, holding Q&As and running wellbeing webinars.  

Highlights from this lockdown as expressed in our recent lockdown survey from homes included "exercising/workouts in the garden, crafts - paper mache, painting, YouTube dance routines, cooking and baking together", "Singing, dancing, going for a little walk around this beautiful community and a look at the beach" and "baking competition and the workout zooms".

The Board of Trustees and Executive Team are once again humbled and proud of the commitment and efforts of our entire team during this second lock down, especially those Community Facilitators who were away from their families for an entire week - we understand it was a huge ask and we could not have done it without them. Lockdown is not completely over yet for all of us with the Waikato continuing to be in Level 3, however all our staff and the people we support should hold their heads high and be proud of their efforts and resilience during this time.
