Register now: Hauora Project

Registrations are now open for a series of events to reconnect disabled people within the community following a limiting few years with the pandemic.

The Hauora Project run by ConneXu is for any disabled person within the Waipa District and is supported by Waipā District Council’s Waipā Recovery Fund.

ConneXu Group Manager Organisational, Wellbeing and Quality Laura Etz says the programme has been designed to bring disabled people within the community back together after a tough few years due to the pandemic.

“It is time for us to reconnect and recover in both a social and an educational manner from the impacts of the pandemic and that disconnection that we have seen within the disabled community,”

Laura says.

“This funding from council is enabling us to run the Hauora Project, and we have a series of events based around life skills and teachings, which is enabling the individual to develop a understanding of the Te Whare Tapa Whā model of wellbeing and better manage their own wellness requirements in the future.”

Council’s Waipā Recovery Fund supports projects, programmes, activities and services provided by not-for-profit community groups and local businesses with an aim to assist local communities to recover from the direct impacts of COVID-19.

“These events align with the principles of enabling good lives, empowering disabled people within our community to build relationships, and learn critical life skills at which in turn will be mana enhancing for individuals,” Laura says.

“We are really excited with this move into the Lakes District and to be able to work with new disabled partners, their families/whanau. We are under no illusions that there will challenges heading into a new region, like finding great new team members, but we also relish the chance to show people how ConneXu does it differently, and how we help to enable good lives for those people we work with.”

“Overall, it is about empowering our disabled community with the right information for them to lead their life their way and independently as they can or choose. We are really excited to be bringing this project to life and look forward to meeting some amazing members of our community and helping them to reconnect with people, make new friends and create new experiences.”

All events, with the exception of the mindfulness session and the end of year celebration, will be held at the Te Awamutu Library.
